When I look inside I see discoloration to a greater or lesser extent all the way round the base - clearly this kettle is corroding from the inside out on a previously invisible seam. I had the previous version of this kettle and it lasted me several years before the base gave up the ghost but it never corroded in this way. So good points: it does boil water fast. Bad point (and the reason I won't be buying another one) - surely a kettle that is so poorly manufactured that water can seep through a seam and eventually leak is potentially a hazard? And there is no way to tell if "your" version of this kettle will be any better - you cannot see this seam inside until corrosion sets in.
