The unit comes in a a pretty big box and the packaging is very good - everything looked in pristine condition when unpacking. I ordered the black model shown (available in white as well). The quality build of this is extremely high and this is only confirmed by the first step which is to remove the front cover and then take out (easy to do) the three filters. The first filter is like a typical air conditioner filter - plastic grid with mesh like trap to catch larger piece of dust, etc. The second and third filters are both sealed which was very nice - the 2nd filter is a charcoal filter and you can see and hear if you shake it the bits of charcoal inside. The third and final filter is the HEPA filter. After this first step of opening an reinserting the filters which take under five minutes you are ready to go.
