Shop vac floor, empty into pails and lug up the stairs to empty. Now, with this machine and a 100 ft. hose leading up to the first floor and out the garage, the bucket business is over. It pumps faster than I can vac (water is maybe max 1/4 in. deep at any time) and has made the whole process, while still not a joy, certainly much easier and faster (also less cussing). I have used it twice a day for 30 min. or so each time for the past 40 days. A few notes: the assembly instructions are not what I'd call user friendly so it took longer than necessary to figure out the wet vac operation. Also, the hoses come apart a bit too easily. These are small compared to its advantages and a very reasonable cost.
