Reviews on other brands, although overall positive, had enough negative ones for us to opt for sticking with Cuisinart. The downside to that is the cost of a new Cuisinart product, no matter what variety. When we found this model as a certified refurb, we made the purchase. About one month of use so far has been flawless. It makes the same delicious coffee we were used to from the 1200 model. Size-wise it is slightly larger, which would be expected since its a 14-cup versus a 12-cup. Just like the 1200, the top flips open to access coffee filter and water reservoir.
