Water Sentinel WSM-2 Refrigerator Filter | Maytag UKF8001
the water tastes great, I'm supporting a small business in our country ...
Why did I choose this filter? it's MADE IN THE USA !!! I don't know about you but after melamine was found in baby formula and pet food, there was no way I was going to put an imported water filter in my fridge. This one costs less than the brand name, the water tastes great, I'm supporting a small business in our country and I feel a little safer. Can't ask for more.
The filter is significantly less expensive but you also get less.
The filter is significantly less expensive but you also get less. As others have pointed out, the filter is only rated for 6 months OR 300 gallons. We use 300 gallons very quickly. The main drawback is that this filter only meets ANSI standard 42 (Drinking Water Treatment Units - Aesthetic Effects, is used to verify a drinking water filter effectively removes contaminants that cause undesirable odor and taste, such as chlorine). It will make the water taste better. However it does not meet ANSI standard 53 that removes trace heavy metals (arsenic, cadmium, chromium, copper, lead, mercury and selenium), inorganics (fluoride and nitrate plus nitrite) . I will use this for a couple of months and then return to the ANSI 42/53 standard filter.
