Solid budget particle counter I've used this for several months to measure air quality, and I think it does a pretty good job. A few notes: -When you turn it on, the numbers can be a bit wild. You need to wait a few minutes for the machine to settle and get a good baseline reading. That's particularly true for the PM 2.5 readings, which are more affected by me moving around and kicking up dust. -Once settled, it's very sensitive to changes. If I shake my bedsheets nearby the machine or sweep the floor, the numbers go up, as they should. -On the downside, I wish it could run on batteries and be portable. I also wish it would store more minutes of data (it stores 60 minutes). But these are minor complaints. -One reviewer seemed to be really angry that this does not give readings that are the same as AQI. That is true, but whether that matters depends on your needs. Very useful for controlling indoor air quality I believe strongly that if you are trying to control a parameter, you should measure it if at all possible. Closed-loop control systems just work better. The best examples I have are pretty technical, but the rule applies to simple household problem just as much as to fancy engineering problems. For instance, before getting and using a hygrometer, I fumbled around with numerous strategies to keep up the humidity in my apartment in the winter. Once I got the hygrometer, I was able to solve the problem once and for all in just a few days. A particle counter is to dust levels what a hygrometer is for humidity. They are useful if you have a respiratory condition, or if you work in a place (like a wood shop) with so much dust that even those without respiratory conditions could easily end up getting one if they're not careful.
