However, doing an actual water test, it does not remove a lot of the dissolved solids and minerals. The overall system is fairly well made - it is easy to change filters and you do not have to turn of the water to do so as the filter head features an auto shut off when the filter is removed. However, the attachment to the wall is a single screw, and the connectors for the water lines are not as robust as i might like (friction fit essentially - but then it IS all plastic and not brass.) this is probably better to use with plastic water line, as the flexibility of the plastic line should reduce stress at the fitting. I of course am using copper line, and thus my concern over the robustness of the fittings. |
| See Products Related To GE SmartWater Inline Filter System (GXRLQ): GE The GE Exterior Refrigerator/Icemaker Filtration System reduces contaminants such as sediment, chorline-resistant cysts and lead. Features a "twist and lock" filter, providing easy filter changes with no water shutoff or tools needed. Entire system installs directly to the water line of refrigerators without built-in filtration. NSF/ANSI certified.Fortunately, the internet has work arounds If you buy, be prepared to install a hose washer on top your replacement water filter, so that the release valve is pressed and water flows again. I contacted GE, and their first response is it only has a 30-day warranty and you need to take it back to the purchase location. I complained to no avail in that, who replaces a $35 filter in 30 days. Fortunately, the internet has work arounds, and others with this issue found that by adding a garden hose washer on top the replacement filter, the release valve gets compressed and water will flow again. Clearly this is a manufacturing defect that buyers should not have to deal with. Last, I was not comfortable putting a generic garden hose washer in my drinking water system and found a NSF 51 / 61 hose washer that is safe for drinking water. Search amazon for NSF 61 washer, and you will find it by Thogus. Here is the link, but you can find it on ebay as well a little cheaper... |
| Good tasting water but replacement design flaw The water tastes great and according to the fact sheets filters out some particles and spores. However, there is a design flaw with this model, after a couple of filter replacements, the nubs at the top of the filter do not reach high enough to trigger the release in the manifold to release enough water and it dribbles out. This problem happened to me too, but can be fixed with a garden hose plastic washer inserted at the top of the filter. Use a thin washer or a used washer for best results.
