Only lasted 17 years...
I was having a problem where my 17-year-old Kenmore 80 Series washing machine wouldn't go from wash to rinse or from rinse to spin without manually moving the timer. Sounds like a timer problem, doesn't it? Well I replaced the timer and same symptoms. I noticed the motor start capacitor would make a loud buzzing sound like it was trying to start the motor but the motor would only sometimes start. Again, it was so inconsistent that I really thought it was the timer so after reading much online I tested all the motor windings with an ohm-meter and it tested OK. I noticed the motor was really hot so I thought it might be the transmission binding up so I disconnected the motor and let it run through a complete "wash" cycle with it just sitting on the floor disconnected from the transmission and low and behold the motor got just as hot to the touch. Electrically the motor was fine but turns out the thermal protection switch on the motor was shutting it down right after the wash cycle...

This is a genuine replacement part. The model number and name for the following item is: Whirlpool 661600 Motor.
right motor right fit right time
Just what I needed

For those who don't know...I had to replace my pump and thought
the plastic piece was bad...but really the plastic had a metal sleeve
that was "rust welded" to the motor...it would have made
it easier at first if I just had ordered both parts
