Usually messier--still good coffee, but these are much easier for larger amounts 3- Timer.- Program to have it made when you wake up, set it for # of cups (add appropriate water, coffee) set time, done Its that simple. WHen you look at these, notice that the lesser expensive ones tend to use cone filters and have the brains (electronics) on the bottom--under the carafe. Not a good combo because they can and do over fill and flood the bottom. This is a good one. Hope this helps.

I had a problem with the the pot leaking while pouring coffee. They replaced the pot with no charge. Then, after sometime the warming plate began to erode. I looked for a new maker but I really liked the way this one worked. I bought the newer version in the red & lo & behold Kitchenaid changed the pot so now there is no place for the coffee to leak when pouring. I have had this one for 5 months & there is no scratching or a change in the warming plate. It seems that it is now better made & I really like this coffeemaker even more. I highly recommend this product.
