The heavy stuff, which is way less now that the well is 'broken in' spins down to the bottom and the filter catches the fine stuff. It seems to 'drop off' the filter when the pump cycles, so I hardly have to remove and clean the filter. It does start to grow algae after a few months, so that's when I clean it. Great product.
