Re: the expense of replacement filters- we purchase the largest Filtrete filters we can find in Wal-Mart and cut them to fit. We have been doing this for at least three years and the original two are working as well as when they were new.

I've tried other filters (to save money) but they are crap compared to Filtrete, so I will continue to purchase these products. Okay, back to the filter -- it is very quiet and works very well. The filters last about 3 months, a bit longer if you vacuum them with the handheld or just want to push them to their limit. The filter unit itself is a bit bulky, but it's not terribly large. However, IT IS MUCH LARGER THAN I IMAGINED IT WOULD BE. It sucks in the air from the side but then fans it upwards, so you can put it in a corner or out-of-sight if you need to...
