When heating the water in your kettle, pour about a cup into the dripper and let it stand for a minute to let the porcelain pre-warm. We do have a 'real' coffee maker but it gets no use because the cup of coffee you get from this unit is superior and more convenient. Also, after having coffee from this immersion dripper, the stuff that comes out of the K-cup machines will be even more of a disappointment than it was to begin with...
