Better Filter than the Maytag UKF8001 Original
I bought this because my refrigerator called for a Maytag UKF8001 Pur Refrigerator Water Filter 1-Pack. However, the page for that indicated that: "There is a newer model of this item!" So, I went for the newer! It claims to filter more than 2X the contaminants of the original UKF8001 filter including pharmaceuticals which we now have to be concerned about (who would have thunk!). The product description claims this protects us from up to 66 types of contaminants! I like that! It is certified for Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Maytag, Amana, Jenn-Air refrigerators. It installs with the same quick twisting action of the original.

It used to be that the places on our planet least populated by man and industry could be tapped for cleaner water. However, now contaminants like pharmaceuticals, lead, mercury, parasites, and pesticides can make their way into many water sources. So where can a family go for cleaner, fresher water? How about your own kitchen! EveryDrop Filters by Whirlpool Water introduces our advanced generation of ice and water refrigerator filters. This EveryDrop Filter reduces the most contaminants - with new Triple Filtration Technology. Filter 4 reduces 23 types of contaminants; so enriching everyone's well-being with cleaner water, right from your own refrigerator, is easy. Remember to replace your water filter every 6 months to maximize contaminant reduction.
Great tasting water, but what is the black stuff all over?!?
This would have a 5 star product as the water taste wonderful. Yet on both filters I bought, there are black charcoal remains underneath the sealed lid. So when I pour water out, I see some black stuff coming out. It almost looks like rat poop. I don't know if this is normal or if I just got a bad batch?
Effective substitute filter
Works fine in my KitchenAid refrigerator. Water does seem much better filtered compared to before, though I had left the old filter in considerably longer than I should because I forgot about it and the replace filter light never came on.

Based on the product packaging, this filter really is rated as NSF 53 (and not just unofficially claiming to filter 53 contaminants). I mention this because it was basically impossibly to verify this from the online product information.
