The Craftsman was loud but it sucked up everything, wet or dry. So after reading reviews I settled on the Shop-Vac. I use vac for woodworking, sucking up water off patio, and general cleanup. I got the Lowes version which is identical to this one. After putting it together I tested it on several surfaces and types of debris. It is MUCH less noisey than the old Craftsman. You can actually talk over it while running. However the suction is much less. So I went to HD and got the Ridgid WD1450 model (14 gal)in hopeing it had better suction power. The Ridgid was quite as well. But it too seemed to lack very good suction. I put them side by side and compared using pleated filter on both. The SV has a foot longer hose and the hose seems more flexible and higher quality. The positive lock on the SV is superior to the Ridgid...

Solid High-End Performer I have owned this vac for 2 weeks. Overall it is a well built and simple machine to use. The assembly instructions are reasonable and it comes with several difference nozzle options and a mesh bag that holds accessories together when not in use. Prior to this purchase, I own a Rigid 4.5HP vac that I still use in another portion of my home. I purchased this unit to help with cleanup in my garage during wet winter months where dirt and water accumulate underneath my vehicles. I considered purchase of the unit with an integrated water pump, but realized that for my application this would not be of great benefit. Here are the pros/cons of this vac.
