This is important because standard 53 is for the reduction of Lead, Mercury, Benzene, p-Dichlorobenzene,Toxaphene and Carbofuran. You might not have these elements in your water, but you should know what you're paying for! Long overdue update: Filter did nothing to improve the taste of our unpleasant Central Florida water. The OEM filters on the other hand work very well. Threw the entire 3 pack in the trash.

Filters explode and cause water damage! I have a WSW-1 and the end blew off and started shooting water out the front of the refrigerator and all over the floor. Fortunately we were in the next room when it happened. If we had been away it could have caused thousands of dollars of water damage. In the future I will spend a little more money and get the Kenmore brand filters.
