but it wasn't a horrible smell like the LG models that I had in ...
I just got it a few days ago. It had a slight smell to it when it first started it up. I had to keep the window open. The smell is slowly going away, but it wasn't a horrible smell like the LG models that I had in the past. This Whynter is the new model that replaced their previous one. The previous one had a lot of great reviews. I didn't score it a 5 because it's hard to take out the bucket. You have to really give it a pull. It's also difficult to push it back in, you have to really push it. When you take out the bucket, hold the handle and walk to empty it, I feel like it's tilting a little and I have to walk slow. I noticed a little screen in the bottom of the bucket. I had to get on the floor near the dehumidifier to look into the unit to where this screen fell. It came from where the water comes out. I had to put it back in gently doing my best not to try and damage anything. I didn't like how the little screen fell off. It should have been better constructed. I gave it a four...

The Whynter Elite D-Series Energy Star 70 Pint Portable Dehumidifier with Pump is a high capacity unit with an outstanding capability of removing up to 70 pints of moisture from the air per day. With its water pump drainage option, large internal reservoir and environmentally friendly design, this unit creates a very efficient and powerful companion to any home or workplace dealing with high levels of humidity. This portable dehumidifier can be continuously operated with 3 drainage options: manual drain, gravity drain and condensate pump drain. The condensate pump can pump out (and up) condensation water through the included 16.5' drain for continuous water removal with approximately 15' of vertical lift. The Whynter Elite D-Series Energy Star 70 Pint Portable Dehumidifier with Pump includes a 13-pint bucket that can be removed and emptied. For low-temperature area usage, this portable dehumidifier has an auto defrost function to ensure moisture does not freeze and prevent further moisture extraction. As indicated by its Energy Star qualification for lower energy costs, the Whynter RPD-711DWP provides cost-effective and energy-efficient operation without sacrificing design and performance. Built for high capacity usage, this unit is suited for enclosed areas as large as 4500 sq. ft.
Has made the humidity in my house perfect!
Works great and does not use too much power. The comfort mode and the continuous pump mode are great. It has brought the average humidity of my house in Atlanta down by 10 to 15%! Because I have a large unfinished basement which gets rain water runoff in it often; the humidity in the house, especially in the spring and summer would approach 60 to 65% without the A/C constantly running. Now the humidity never gets above 55% and is typically 40 to 45%. It makes the A/C feel cooler so I can turn it up about 4 degrees and still feel as cool.
