This is a review of the Kenwood SMJ610 Persona Electric Kettle.

There are a couple questions that need to be answered: why would you need an electric kettle, and why would you want this one.

To answer the first question: the electric kettle can be set to different temperatures, not just "boil" as with a whistling kettle. (In this case, it can be set to seven different temperatures--default is Fahrenheit, but it can be changed to Celsius.) Certain teas and other beverages taste significantly better if brewed at a temperature lower than boiling. E.g. green tea gets bitter if brewed with water that is too hot, but tastes great when brewed with water at 167 degrees.
The other advantage of an electric kettle is that is should boil water faster than a stove top -- even the professional stoves.

The attributes of this model: This one is a very nice looking machine. The kettle is brushed stainless and the separate base is polished chrome...

It's good.
Some things you need to note:
-Plastic interior.
-Water level window under the handle is not an ideal location for it.

I have this, Breville BKE820XL Variable-Temperature 1.8-Liter Kettle, and I will make a comparison between the two since that is what would be useful to me if I were buying one.

The Breville has buttons for the different kinds of tea. This Kenwood has temperatures. I will have to remember which tea needs what temperature or write them down.

The Breville is slightly faster.

The Kendwood is much quieter (can barely hear the water boiling)
The Kendwood has a very pleasant chime when it's done (it's not loud, you won't hear the chime in another room).

Both have plastic parts in the interior. The Kenwood is all plastic inside though (except for the bottom).

The Breville is all stainless steel on the outside.

A hot beverage connoisseur's dream!
Out of the box this is a gorgeous appliance; the digital photo simply does not to it justice. It has sleek lines and th brushed aluminum finish looks beautiful wrapping the contours of the kettle. The handle is of well-finished molded plastic, which keeps with the simple design and is also very ergonomic, as pouring is comfortable, even when the kettle is full. Behind the handle is a window to see the capacity and volume the kettle contains. The top is of shiny stainless steel with a plastic button which pops the lid to allow for cleaning or filling, although one may also fill through the spout without opening the lid. The base on which the kettle sits is of plastic made to look like stainless. It looks fantastic and its buttons are high-quality and click reassuringly when pressed. This kettle would look beautiful in any kitchen. It's an appliance one can be proud to leave out on the counter.

As for its performance, I was mightily impressed and lamented having lived...
