| Nice Tea Maker This was a surprise gift so before I used the item I looked online and found nothing so I figured it must be better than making tea in a pot on the stove and went for it. This is obviously a Chinese product based on the wording on the package and manual, but the packaging is nice and sturdy so the unit arrived undamaged. This a very nice looking product, it complements our stainless steel appliances and does not take up very much counter space. It also appears to be made well, the handle is sturdy, the glass pitcher is clear and thick, and the plug is a 3 prong grounded plug. This tea maker comes with two different lids, one with an attached basket made for loose tea and one standard lid. I don't make loose tea very often but I tested the operation of moving the basket up and down and it seems to work as intended. I may have to start making loose tea now that I have the capability. Now, I think the price was fair. Pro's - Variable temprature: This is why I picked this product. I wanted full control of the temp of the water. - Filtered spout: I don't use it. Could be useful for keeping tea or any other particles in the pot while pouring. - Dock station: The pot is easily removed from doc, so there is no cord in the way when pouring. - Hidden Cord: Cord winds up inside the dock. I would expect that breakage on this unit would be low in shipping, which is what you want. Unit worked perfectly after the unpacking. There had been reviews stating some of the LED bulbs did not work, but on this unit they all work. There is an initial "new product" smell which I'm not sure was from the plastic molded handle or top or somewhere else. We filled water to the line and ran through the cycle of heating, after 6 times the scent was no longer evident and the water tasted "fresh". I would suggest this on ANY unit similar to these anyway. I really wanted to like this unit. I did my research, selected this one after returning a different electric kettle. My key factors were capacity (1.7 L), cordless, pop-top (so I wouldn't scald myself if I needed to refill) and simplicity (on/off switch, not complicated). Sadly, I overlooked one thing - the handle. This handle was so big it was uncomfortable for me to hold -- EMPTY. I tried filling it with water, and yep, it got worse. I couldn't hold it with one hand (and usually I don't have a problem with things like that). I think part of the problem stems from the fact that the handle is so smooth, there are no grips or anything. So my smaller hands just can't get a good grasp on it.
