To clear up confusion, there are two types of Kenmore filters, one which has an opening at both ends (DCF-1) and one with an opening at only one end (DCF-2). This filter fits both DCF1 and DCF2 filters thanks to an easily removable end-cap included in the box. So, if your original filter has an opening at only one end, leave the cap in place. And if your original filter has an opening at both ends, remove the cap (it pops right off). No more guess work which filter you need! Measures 6"inches tall and 3 1/2" inches in Diameter Filters Washing Directions Unplug the vacuum from the electrical socket. Remove the filter and we believe it is best to take the filter outside, preferably to the garage or a dumpster, so that you do not spread all the dust indoors. First, tap the filter gently on the side of the garbage can so that most of the dust falls in. Rinse outside surface of filter with running water. Make sure to air-dry the filter thoroughly and completely before you replace it in the vacuum cleaner. We suggest 24-48 hours.
