The main advantage to a "cool mist" humidifier is that it begins producing mist as soon as it's turned on. Some people prefer to use steam humidifiers, however, because they boil and sterilize the water, and don't eject live mold or bacteria into the air. This humidifier does not boil the water at all; if you use the warm mist setting instead of the cool mist setting, all it does is warm the water to about 80 degrees before it vaporizes it (which actually makes it easier for bacteria to thrive). If the humidifier is maintained well and cleaned periodically, this shouldn't be a problem, but I wouldn't recommend sticking your face into the mist and inhaling deeply. Regarding the warm-mist setting, it speeds up the humidification of the room. Using an accurate hygrometer to get the real humidity I found it to be 39%-41%...now that's off. Despite this I'm still giving this humidifier 4 stars (it deserves 5 stars in every other way) because there's one thing about it that simply goes beyond 5 stars.....no need to constantly keep replacing filters and cartridges (and spending money on that crap) as well as...
