This unit has a unique design where the actual vacuum and cleaning solution unit "Lift-Off" the base unit so you can do spot cleaning or clean in tight areas. This it does very well and it might be the best "spot cleaner" available. However, when it is back in the sweeper unit I think it is less effective than units designed solely for that purpose. It might be some loss of suction where the units connect, or simply the cleaner was maximized for the spot cleaning function. We also have a Bissell Model 47A2 Premier Cleaner. They look very similar in design, but the 47A2 is not designed as a lift-off spot cleaner. It spot cleans with an extension hose. Comparing the two, the 47A2 is the more powerful and effective stand-up, large area carpet cleaner and the weaker spot or upholstery cleaner.
