I expect I had the same mindset as most people here: "Do I want to pay $55 for 1 official filter or $58 for 3 after-market filters?". At first glance these seems just fine. They fit our Whirlpool filter system just fine. The trouble began when I began to purge the line after "blowing the keg" from the old, official filter. The second pint of water was quite literally black. It was as if there was loose charcoal sitting inside the filter. It took 16 more pints before the water finally became clear. It is drinkable water but I very much doubt the effectiveness of the filter as the water has a strong taste of minerals as if no filter was there. Since I've installed this filter I also hear a loud, hissing noise whenever I am pouring water. I would like to return these and just spend the money on the real deal.

Good value Arrived fast and an easy install in our Kenmore Elite side-by-side refrigerator. Ran enough water through to clear the filter and all is well. Useful life remains to be seen, but so far, so good. Certainly far less expensive than brand name replacement cartridges.
