Update: November 2012

Like a few other reviewers - this kettle is now leaking from the on/off switch. Six months old - so within warranty - but it leaks. I'll attach photos - but this is now going from a 5 star review to 2 stars.

May 2012:

Our old kettle had a broken switch - so it's off to Amazon to look for something new.

We chose this kettle primarily because it was red - but also because it was good looking and nice and simple. There is one switch - ON/OFF - and one additional catch to open the lid.

We were impressed with how quiet it was during boiling - and it took around six minutes to boil a full kettle of cold tap water to a rolling boil.

Pros:

- looks good
- simple
- great design
- quiet

Cons:

- pricy

Wonderful Kettle that Requires a 5 Minute Contact Cleaning Every Two Years
I bought this kettle about two years ago and it gets substantial daily use. It boils water quickly. It's easy to fill, handle, and pour. The water level view is extraordinarily helpful. My daughter also loves it and she is quite discerning about the design of everyday things. (like the title of the book) The design aesthetic is beautiful and it goes great with the neutral color scheme by providing a pop of inviting color.

Unlike other kettles that spark on contact when you set them down on their powered tray, this kettle remains off, extending the life of the contacts. The round switch is easy to toggle and it lights when it's on and automatically turns off once the water has reached a full boil.

Unfortunately, it has one flaw that might cause many to throw it away after just 2-3 years of use. The contacts in the base are not coated with gold or other non-oxidizing metal. This morning, I awoke to find that it just wouldn't power on. After unplugging it, I...
