I recently purchased this humidifier at BBB and so far it is doing a good job. I wanted something that was quiet and didn't require replacement filters and I got it. When adjusting the humidistat you can definitely see a change in the amount of mist on my machine. Many reviews talk about the demineralizing tablets and not knowing what to do with them. If you read the instruction manual it tells you at the end what to do with them. Fill your tank and drop them in. Depending if you have normal water you replace them every 3 months or so and if you have hard water they may need to be replaced more often. If the light on the front of the machine is green you have enough water, if it turns red that means you need to add more water.

AND I'm sick of paying for and changing filters on all my other humidifiers. They are pure gross and filled with dust and bacteria. As far as the other reviews and the de-mineralization tablets, I didn't even read the instruction manual, I assumed it works like all other humidifiers and you just drop them in the tank. However, it would be nice for Sharper Image to tell you that (they do tell you this on the replacement pack tho).

Finally, quiet relief.... I purchased my Sharper Image (SI) Ultrasonic Humidifier after being impressed by it's "little brother" smaller version at a friend's house, also by SI. I plugged mine in and scratched my head however, because I couldn't figure out at first how to put water in this thing, nor could I see a way to put the cartridges in! After reading a rather sarcastic comment by another reviewer who said to simply "look at page 10 of your INSTRUCTION MANUAL", I realized why I was having a bit of a struggle... My booklet only goes to page 7! Well, I tell myself that I'm internet/tech savvy, so I went on to Sharper Images' web-based version of the Instruction Manual... SAME THING! It only goes to page 7! Eh???? I finally stopped scratching my head and took a good look at the tanks and realized that there is a cap that unscrews on the bottom of each tank. BINGO! I put water AND the cartridges in, plugged in the humidifier, and I am already feeling relief in my wood stove-heated home...
